You don't need to give money to be part of this.

Translators, organisers, researchers, fellows — the day-to-day work of the movement runs on people giving their time and skills, not just their £10. Here's where you'd fit in.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU APPLY

Answered right here.

Do I need to be based in the UK?

No — Lavender Common operates across Europe and welcomes volunteers from any country. Our community-building focus right now is on 16 countries: the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Community Organisers in those countries are especially welcome, but we'd like to hear from you wherever you are.

Is there a minimum time commitment?

It depends on the role. General volunteering can be as little as a few hours a month. Community Organisers usually start with a few hours a month, and some take on more as their local network grows. For the Human Rights Fellowship, we'd suggest one to two days a week for around three months. We'll talk it through when we follow up.

Is any of this paid?

Volunteering with Lavender Common is unpaid. You'd be giving your time to the cause — and, especially on the Fellowship, gaining real experience on live ECHR casework along the way.

Will my involvement be public?

Only if you want it to be. We never name volunteers, fellows or organisers on our website or social media without asking first, and plenty of people support us quietly. If being visibly linked to LGBTQ+ work could put you at risk where you live, tell us. We'll shape your role around that.

How long until I hear back?

We aim to respond to every expression of interest within a couple of weeks. If we don't think it's a fit right now, we'll still let you know.

Can I volunteer without legal expertise?

Absolutely. Translators, organisers, researchers, and communications support are all genuinely useful — you don't need to be a lawyer to contribute to the movement.
