Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

Lavender Common wants this website to be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or reduced motion. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across the site.

2. Conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. We believe it meets the standard in most respects, but it hasn't yet been tested by people who use assistive technology or audited by a specialist — see the known limitations below.

3. What's in place

• ✓A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page, so keyboard users can jump past the navigation.
• ✓Clear, visible focus outlines on every link, button and form field.
• ✓A mobile menu that tells screen readers whether it's open or closed, keeps keyboard focus inside while open, closes with the Escape key, and returns focus to the menu button.
• ✓Text and background colours that meet WCAG AA contrast ratios, checked with automated testing on every page.
• ✓A logical heading structure and page landmarks (header, navigation, main content, footer), so screen reader users can move around each page easily.
• ✓Every form field has a proper label. Error and success messages are announced to screen readers as they appear.
• ✓Buttons that act as options — such as donation amounts and news filters — tell screen readers which one is selected.
• ✓Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images, and decorative images and icons hidden from screen readers.
• ✓Pages that work at 320 pixels wide and when zoomed to 200%, without text being cut off or scrolling sideways.
• ✓If you've turned on "reduce motion" on your device, animations are switched off across the site.
• ✓Text in other languages, such as the German version of our Berlin statement, is marked so screen readers pronounce it correctly.

4. Known limitations

We know about these issues and are working on them:

• !The site hasn't yet been tested by people who use screen readers (such as VoiceOver, NVDA or JAWS) or other assistive technology, or audited by an accessibility specialist. Automated testing can't catch every problem.
• !The case and news carousels on our homepage scroll sideways. They can be used with a keyboard, but browsing them may be slower than a normal list.
• !The live supporter count on our homepage updates after the page loads, and this change isn't announced to screen readers.
• !Donations are completed on a payment page run by Stripe, which we don't control. Stripe publishes its own accessibility information.

5. Feedback & reporting problems

If you have trouble using any part of this website, or need information in a different format, email director@lavendercommon.com. Tell us the page and what went wrong, and we'll aim to reply within 5 working days — and to help you directly while we fix the underlying problem.

6. Technical information

This website is built with standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and works in current versions of major browsers on desktop and mobile. It doesn't need any plugins. Some features, such as the news feed and the supporter count, need JavaScript turned on.

7. How this was prepared

This statement was last reviewed on 27 September 2026. It's based on our own assessment of the site against WCAG 2.2 AA, including automated testing of every page at desktop, tablet and mobile sizes, and manual keyboard checks. We plan to have the site tested by assistive technology users and reviewed by a specialist, and will update this statement when that's done. We'll review it at least once a year.
